SB Maritime Museum Open House

June 5, 1999

On Saturday, June 5, representatives from the Cabrillo High School and the Aquarium were invited to the Maritime Museum open house in Santa Barbara.

During the event, the Aquarium students were able to watch the launch of one of SSE's "deepworkers" and tour the MacArthur. The "deepworkers" were escorted into the harbor by a ceremonial Chumash Indian canoe.

Lt. Commander Ed Cassano, commanding officer of the Channel Islands Sanctuary, introduced Sylvia Earle, developer of SSE, members of the Chumash community, and Congressional Representative Lois Capps in celebrating the Sustainable Seas project.

Open House at the museum then began, and Cabrillo Aquarium students were on hand to answer many questions about the Aquarium and the special project, CONQFISH1.

The CHS Aquarium would like to thank NOAA and the Marine Sanctuary staff for this unique opportunity.
